Job overview

The Governors invite bright, charismatic people with a strong educational background and leadership experience to apply for the chance to be Head of this wonderful prep school. He/she will be a team player, committed to grasping this exciting opportunity to build upon the legacy of the present Head, whilst preserving and embracing the School’s unique ethos and traditional values. Key attributes will be a commitment to maintaining our strong family values and a real understanding of the importance of having a wide variety of opportunities given to the children to prepare them to become successful and confident adults. The candidate must be able to embrace and show an affinity for boarding.

Most important of all, the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who inspires children, parents, staff and Governors, and who works collaboratively with them with self-assurance, strength of character and a sense of fun. He or she will be a strategic thinker showing the ability to understand the School as a business and with a strong interest in marketing. Relationships with senior school Heads and knowledge of secondary school transfer will be very important.

The overriding aim of the School is to ensure the happiness of the boys and girls. The current Head, Alastair Ramsay, highlights the School’s philosophy: “Whilst excellent academic performance is central to the School’s ethos, we are careful not to measure children by academic achievement alone and place real value on the breadth of experience they gain. Effort, enthusiasm and conduct are highly esteemed and the resulting growth in confidence is the key to unlocking other accomplishments.”

West Hill Park School is a co-educational, Independent day and boarding school for children aged three to 13, overlooking the village of Titchfield in Southern Hampshire. The School is situated in a truly enviable rural position, based around an 18th Century manor house and set in 28 acres of mature grounds, including large games pitches, cricket squares, a riding school, private woodlands and a beautiful garden with lawn tennis courts. Close to the wildlife, walks and outdoor activities of the New Forest and just a few miles from the shores of the Solent, the School enjoys the best of both worlds with its proximity to the historic cities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester.

The Head is provided with a lovely large family house in the School grounds with a beautiful private garden. There is also favourable school fee remission if the successful candidate has children who wish to benefit from an education at West Hill Park.
