We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an exceptional Head of Academic Music, starting in September 2024 or January 2025. The Head of Academic Music is a full-time member of the Music Department and will be expected to play a full part in the life of the College as a whole. They will be influential in inspiring and developing our pupils and leading the academic programme under the overall direction of the Director of Music. 

The Head of Academic Music reports to the Director of Music who has overall responsibility for music in the College. They will join a large and thriving department of seven other music staff, two administrative staff and 50+ visiting music teachers. 

Academic Music is a popular subject within a school which enjoys high-level instrumental playing and an enjoyment of singing amongst the pupils. Current academic music numbers are very healthy; 19 pupils are currently undertaking A-level, with almost 60 pupils undertaking IGCSE, and with over half the Year 9 cohort selecting Music. 

About Winchester College 

The school was founded by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, in 1382. Winchester College is a boarding and day school of over 700 pupils. In September 2022, the College welcomed 40 day boys and girls into the Sixth Form, and will continue to do so over time, expanding the entry each year to include girl boarders in due course. 

Situated in the heart of Winchester and within easy reach of London, there are few schools in the world which can claim to be as historic, distinguished, and beautiful as Winchester College.

Situated in Hampshire, Winchester College is an independent, secondary school for pupils aged between 13 and 18. The school was founded in 1382 by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham. It was expanded in the 19th Century to accommodate the popular demand in the local society. At the moment, there are over 700 pupils enrolled at the boarding school.
