Job overview

An inspirational and energetic Head of Art is required for September 2018.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher to develop further the Art at Hazlegrove.  The Department is housed in a purpose built building with the new Art Room (opened in September 2017) overlooking fields and trees towards Glastonbury Tor through a full height North facing glass window.  Next door, is the Design & Technology Department  which includes a newly equipped  IT facility to support the teaching of both Art and Design & Technology.

Hazlegrove is a thriving South West Co-Educational Prep School with boarding numbers at capacity and waiting lists in a number of years.  Pupil roll is around 360 with 100 full boarders.  Based around an 18th century house and set in 200 acres of parkland, the school enjoys outstanding facilities.  The recent Inspection Report judged the school to be excellent in all areas.

The school is committed to continued improvement, to outstanding teaching, to the moral and spiritual development of its pupils and to a structured and supportive environment with the belief that learning is best achieved when pupils feel appreciated and safe.

Hazlegrove is totally committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  The school has a range of policies and procedures for child protection and security.  All staff at Hazlegrove are expected to understand and follow all of these policies and procedures as part of their professional responsibilities.

The Head would be pleased to discuss the position with prospective applicants and he can be contacted through his secretary on 01963 442601 or by email on headsec@hazlegrove.co.uk

Values and vision

King’s Bruton is a smaller independent school and, as such, its values and vision revolve around the tight-knit community of students that it has cultivated. The Somerset school promotes a sense of loyalty, determination and encourages pupils to go above and beyond both in and out of the classroom.

Emphasis is placed on inclusivity and promoting diversity within the school. King’s Bruton aims to foster a culture of acceptance and respect in all aspects of school life.

ISI report

“Relationships between staff and between pupils themselves are appropriate, and in their questionnaire responses the vast majority of boarders agree that they get on well together and feel safe in their boarding house. Staff are dedicated to the welfare of all pupils and provide a suitable structure for them to develop and thrive. Pastoral policies and procedures are effective and good behaviour is promoted.”
