This is an exciting opportunity for a proven sportsperson with an outstanding coaching pedigree to play a pivotal role in Uppingham School’s progress towards becoming a national centre of excellence for school sport.
As Head of Athletic Development, you will lead the Athletic Development Programme, ensuring the provision is aligned with our Strategic Plan for Sport and is inclusive, flexible and supportive of our pupils’ physical needs.
Experience of coaching elite/aspirational athletes within a High-Performance Centre is essential, along with nationally recognised (UKSCA) coaching and/or other qualifications at degree level or equivalent in Sports Science or related areas.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons.
