Head of Creative Arts (Art and Photography)
The ideal candidate will have experience of leading an Art department or similar and confidence in teaching a broad range of ability in KS2, KS3 and KS4 to GCSE in Art and Photography. Class sizes are favourable, with a maximum of 10 pupils per class at KS2, KS3 and KS4.
Summary of responsibilities
To be responsible for the teaching of Art as part of Creative Arts for KS2, KS3 and KS4, up to GCSE level
To be responsible for the teaching of Photography at GCSE level
To be responsible for the development of exhibition and assessment opportunities inside and outside the school
To maintain links and create out-reach opportunities with arts centres and organisations
To organise and to participate in trips, visits and to run extra-curricular activities
To contribute to the school’s Curriculum Enrichment lessons
To teach pupils according to their educational needs and as defined in their EHC plan
To ensure that equipment is maintained in sound working order
To have due regard to health and safety policies in the department, and to carry out risk assessment as and when appropriate
To take part in in-service training days
To perform normal staff duties, including those specified in the Staff Handbook; including the provision of reasonable cover for absent colleagues
To undertake lunchtime and break time duties as required
To participate in the preparing of pupils for public examinations and participate in the arrangements and supervision of such examinations
In addition to subject teacher responsibilities, the Head Of Creative Arts will have the following responsibilities:
To prepare schemes of work, the departmental handbook and any other necessary documentation
To monitor the above to ensure that all pupils are making progress in departmental subjects
To organise the department's contribution to the Open Days
To represent the department in Heads of Department meetings and the dissemination of appropriate information to members of the department
To organize the arrangement of teaching groups in consultation with the department and to liaise with the Deputy Head in all matters concerning the timetable
To assist the Head in the appointment of new staff to the department, contributing to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the induction and assessment of new and probationary teachers
To organise the induction and supervision of newly qualified teachers, any teachers new to the school and those joining the school on a temporary basis and to review their work within the department.
To develop all members of the department by supporting and delegating as appropriate
To manage departmental budget
To check equipment, resources and departmental areas and update as necessary.
To organise excursions, competitions and any other appropriate event(s)
To oversee arrangements for all departmental events and to check these against the school calendar and, wherever possible, their entry in the provisional calendar for the next term
