Heathcote School is an 11 – 18 school on a rapid journey of improvement. The Headteacher joined the school in 2017 and is working with all stakeholders to ensure we provide the best education and life chances we can to the young people of our community. In September 2018 we had a full Ofsted inspection where we were graded as good in all areas. This is an exciting time to be at a school in an unparalleled setting with unlimited potential in a high challenge, low threat environment.

We are looking for an ambitious candidate to continue the rapid development of the Creative Arts department ensuring outstanding outcomes for our pupils whatever their background. The right leadership will create sustainable opportunities for the development of learning and teaching enabling staff, at all levels of their careers, and pupils to thrive.  This is in line with the school vision of Encourage, Challenge, Succeed.  You will be working with a team of strong teachers and leaders and your own professional development as a leader will be fully supported.  This is an opportunity to grow your own department in line with the school’s vision and your leadership style and you will be supported by a second in department.  The school is passionate about retaining and developing the Arts and the belief in the holistic transformational opportunities provided through Drama, Art and Music. There is huge scope for this leader to ensure as many opportunities for our pupils outside the classroom. At present we run a whole school production, a creative arts showcase, carol singing in the community and many more events.  As a school in the current London Borough of Culture we are keen to become involved in a wide variety of events both this year and beyond giving our pupils unrivalled opportunities and exposure to the Arts.

We particularly welcome applications from teachers for whom Drama is their main subject.

This is in line with the school vision of Encourage, Challenge, Succeed.  You will be working with and supported by an experienced team of strong teachers and leaders.  The Creative Arts department has many strengths and staff who work collaboratively and are fully supportive of all stakeholders.  The successful candidate will be expected to continue to develop school productions and performances within the school and the local community.

Ofsted (September 2018)

“The Headteacher and other senior leaders are ambitious for their pupils and provide strong strategic leadership.”

“Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. They are courteous and respectful.”

We challenge our pupils to take responsibility for their learning, to be resilient to failure and to self-regulate their behaviour. All our staff and governors are determined that all pupils confidently strive for success and expect them to be present and punctual.

Succeed

We succeed when all pupils reach their academic potential and are thoughtful, caring and honest citizens; leaving Heathcote fully prepared for the next stage of their life – whether that be in education, training or employment. We succeed by letting them do so in a comfortable and safe environment where they take a proactive role and develop socially.

The school puts well-being and development at the heart of its work and we have very talented staff who are encouraged to grow, develop and work collaboratively, within school and with local schools, and to be the best they can be.  We are working to ensure school improvement in a high challenge, low threat way and enable robust systems and structures to ensure consistency in all areas, encouraging the growth and development of all.  We are part of the Seven Kings Teaching Alliance, PixL and the West Essex Teaching School Alliance.
