Do you believe passionately about the subject of English being at the heart of an outstanding education? Are you prepared to instil a love of reading in all our learners across the curriculum? Are you ready to take this department to outstanding?

For years, the English Department at St Mark’s Academy has been central to the school’s continual improvement to the brink of outstanding – we now need the right Head of Department to take that final step. For the last four years the results have been in the top 20% nationally with a +0.6 progress score recorded in the last official examinations. You will be entering the role at a brilliant time with a team that is extremely passionate about reading, writing and the role of speaking and listening in a child’s education. In post already are dedicated team made up of several TLR holders and a UPS teacher, who are some of the highest performing teachers in the school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding teacher and current or aspiring middle leader with a clear vision for taking St Mark’s Academy’s English department on a journey to outstanding.

St Mark’s C of E Academy is a vibrant and diverse 11-18 academy situated in Mitcham in the London Borough of Merton. The school was inspected by Ofsted in February 2023 and remains consistently 'Good', with her majesty's inspectors determining that there is substantial evidence to demonstrate that the school could be re-graded to Outstanding, within the next 24 months.
