Job overview

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and rapidly improving school with its own Sixth Form, dedicated to providing a world-class education to the young people and families of Royal Greenwich. We hold a strong commitment to promoting excellence, justice and success for young women and we look forward to extending this to young men as we welcome a mixed intake in to Year 7 from September 2018.

Our goal is to inspire and nurture young people of all abilities and backgrounds to develop a love of learning which will sustain them through their lives. It is this which will successfully see them into further education and the fulfilling career of their choice. We believe that high quality teaching, in a safe, friendly and harmonious community, is the key to unlocking the potential that all our young people have, so that they can go on to change the world for the better.

The DSP is a special provision within our inclusion offer which caters for students who have EHCPs and with a named moderate learning difficulty. The approach taken in the DSP is a holistic one, based on an inclusive approach, which sees the students in the provision catered for in a personalised way, at the same time as including them in the full life of the wider school. We firmly believe that it is our role to see our young people become independent in their later lives, and that is the goal of the DSP. We are therefore seeking an outstanding teacher to lead the DSP under the guidance of our SENCO.

You will lead and promote a culture of high expectation in both behaviour and achievement. You will design and implement a tailored curriculum which will meet the needs of the DSP learners and you will be able to monitor and analyse assessment data and to implement ‘early help’ interventions to boost and accelerate the progress of individual students. This role will include leading a team of staff (both teaching and support) and developing colleagues through encouragement, performance management and the provision of opportunity.

You will:

  • be familiar with best practice in teaching students with specific learning and special educational needs;
  • have experience of teaching students with specific learning and special educational needs in a secondary school setting;
  • have experience of leading a team;
  • have experience of developing good working relationships with families;
  • be able to liaise with a range of staff across the school, and to disseminate best practice to them;
  • be able to maintain accurate and confidential documentation;
  • build good links with other schools and outside agencies;
  • have a good degree, evidence of further study and QTS.

We can offer you:

  • dedicated and supportive colleagues;
  • excellent professional development and guidance;
  • a whole school commitment to excellence and justice in a successful and harmonious community.

To apply, please visit and apply online. Alternatively, contact the HR Team on 020 3260 3123 or email: quoting ref: 666/TIC DSP.

Closing date: Monday, 19th February at noon.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. References will automatically be requested for all shortlisted applicants prior to interview. The successful applicant will be required to be DBS checked prior to taking up post.

About Plumstead Manor School

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and popular secondary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There has been a school on our site since 1913, with the first 105 years as a girls’ school. In response to local demand we admitted our first mixed cohort in 2018 and gradually move to being fully co-educational by 2022.

We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area. Our students progress onto the full range of future pathways, including medicine and veterinary science courses at the most competitive universities and high-quality apprenticeships.
