About the Opportunity
Devizes School is a Good School (Ofsted 2019) and learning is at the heart of all that we do.  We are a very forward thinking school who are always striving to do better.  It is a very happy place to learn and work and the positive relationships between students and staff are based on mutual respect and are at the heart of high standards of teaching and learning.  This results in all students making excellent progress.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher and leader of Design Technology to join this popular and successful school. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and well qualified teacher to deputise in the leadership of the vision for our  Technology, Enterprise and Design Faculty and to contribute to the whole school's strategic vision within a supportive and encouraging team. It would be preferable to appoint a teacher who can teach across the Design & Technology curriculum.

Design Technology subjects in the school are popular and the current year 11 cohort includes two classes of Hospitality and Catering, a class of product design and a class of Art Textiles. We therefore wish to appoint a Deputy Head of Faculty to develop our Faculty team, working closely with the Head of Faculty. We need someone with drive, energy and enthusiasm who will lead in this strategically important curriculum area.

You will benefit from a supportive, well qualified team and an inspirational leadership team whose school ethos has high expectations of students and staff to ensure successful outcomes for all. Devizes School has a reputation for good discipline and high quality education.  You will be empowered to develop your own skills with access to excellent CPD and coaching from both your peers and the school leadership team.

We are passionate and committed to ensuring our curriculum is engaging and inspiring, working towards high levels of creativity and innovation in our teaching and learning across the school.  Our ultimate aim is to provide students with access to a broad range of experiences and challenges so that every student reaches their full potential.

As a school, we also place high value on an individual’s professional development and training, regardless of where they are in their career path.  As an academy within The White Horse Federation of schools, we benefit from sharing resources and support in every aspect of school life.

The successful candidate will
Ensure effective collaboration across the Faculty by active encouragement, promotion and leadership.

Contribute significantly to effective whole school collaboration.

Collaborate effectively with Pastoral Teams to support positive student outcomes across the Faculty.

Rigorously measure and monitor the quality of teaching and learning across the Faculty to ensure that it is never less than good

Through effective self-evaluation, regularly identify strengths, where improvements have been made and areas still in need of development and share this appropriately

Devise and maintain a Faculty Improvement Plan (FIP) underpinned by the School Strategic Plan.

Strategically lead actions designed to improve outcomes for all students within the Faculty.

Intervene with immediate impact where teaching and learning falls below expected standards.

With other Deputy HoFs, strategically lead on the promotion and development of initiatives to improve teaching and learning across the school.

Values and vision

Devizes School’s aims are summarised by its motto: “Raising Aspirations, Building Futures.” The school encourages all its students to aim high in their lives and to build their own futures by working hard and being the best they can be.

Devizes School asks staff and students to demonstrate 100% commitment to the process of learning. It wants every member of the school community to feel they have an equal stake in the success of the learning process. Students' opinions and ideas are sought and appreciated.

The secondary school believes successful lessons are led as much by students as by teachers. Students are therefore viewed as having a responsibility to themselves and to their peers to help make the learning process a productive one.
