Are you a leader who is passionate about education within a Young Offender Institute?

We are seeking an inspirational leader to work as the Head of Education at HMP Feltham Young Offenders Institute.

The role will involve ensuring that young people make best possible achievement progress during their time at Feltham.  You will provide leadership, management and coordination of the contract for the delivery of learning and skills at Feltham YOI, including the management of all Prospects staff employed within the institution.

You will:  

  • build an ethos of success in qualifications
  • set high expectations and continue to improve standards
  • work with senior prison leaders
  • lead staff

The successful candidate will hold a degree level qualification including a National College for Teaching and Leadership; National Professional qualification for Senior Leadership; National Professional Qualification for Headship or similar.  You must have evidence of Ofsted inspection training; notably to become proficient with new framework.   

Significant recent experience in an educational leadership role or member of a Senior Leadership Team.  Substantial and varied teaching experience within post 14 education; Academies, Schools, FE, PRUs. Experience of managing an appropriate, challenging and balanced curriculum. It is desirable if you have experience of working within a secure setting and have evidence of understanding the Youth Justice System.

HMYOI Feltham is a Young Offenders Institute located in Feltham, London.

Prospects provides education for all young people within Feltham Young Offenders Institution, up to the age of 18 and has increased the number of hours a young person in custody at Feltham spends in education each week to equip them with qualifications and skills to break the cycle of reoffending when they leave detention.

The establishment’s regime includes academic education (full/part-time), workshops and vocational training in a wide range of industry.
