Head of English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Applications are sought for a full-time and experienced EAL teacher to join us, in September 2018 (or January 2019) as Head of EAL. The ability to deliver EAL tuition up to Sixth form is essential. English language teaching qualifications such as TEFL, or CELTA/DELTA, and familiarity with the Cambridge English suite of examinations and the IELTS programme are desirable.
This is an opportunity to lead and develop a small but busy EAL department that supports a wide range of pupil language levels and academic abilities. In addition, the ability and willingness to deliver training for classroom teachers in strategies to support EAL pupils in day to day lessons would be welcome.
The majority of pupils who benefit from EAL teaching are boarders. It would be desirable for teachers to be flexible in their working hours to accommodate some teaching to these pupils in twilight sessions or on Saturday mornings, with appropriate time off elsewhere in the week.

As a relatively small independent school, Oswestry School is able to offer smaller class sizes as well as a close academic relationship between staff and students. The school adopts a traditional approach to pastoral care, uniform and behaviour. Staff have high expectations of the ability of pupils to police their own behaviour and approach their education in a mature and adult way. The school invests heavily in extra-curricular activities, with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme just one of the major activities on offer.
