Key Duties and Responsibilities

Develop a comprehensive curriculum offer within the faculty which meets the needs of all students and the strategic development of the academy including cross curricular and competency learning

To play a key role in the exploration of all accreditation opportunities including international dimensions

To plan and regularly review the organisation of learning

To plan student groups and to lead the development of schemes of work and teaching and learning strategies that meet the needs of all learners in line with the curriculum requirements

To lead the collaborative development of good practice and successful innovation across the academy and with external partners

Performance

Responsibility for target setting, tracking , monitoring student progress and achievement within the faculty

Ensure effective assessment for learning, consistent recording and reporting of student progress and the effective use of assessment data

Monitor progress and standards of attainment through analysis of performance data in line with the academy’s assessment cycle

Responsibility for identifying students at risk of underachieving and in need of additional support

Develop and implement effective intervention strategies where required at subject, group or individual student level

Teaching and Learning

Ensure appropriate, challenging and differentiated programmes of study and schemes of work are in place for all subject areas within the faculty to meet student needs

Ensure the principles of personalised learning underpin all developments within the faculty

Support and promote the academy’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) policy

Secure and sustain effective teaching through structured monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of teaching and learning. Active participation in the academy’s monitoring evaluation and review cycle through lesson observations, feedback to teaching staff, work sampling, student interviews and written reports to the vice principal (curriculum development) as necessary

Lead the development of a stimulating learning environment that promotes the identity of the faculty and celebrates achievement

Promote and ensure good behaviour for learning and positive attitudes to learning both inside and outside the classroom

Support and coach staff in the development of effective classroom practice

The academy opened in September 2012 and is sponsored by the David Ross Education Trust. It is a smaller than average secondary school that can provide tailored support for your child. We are a non-selective school and believe that all students should have equal access to a good secondary education. We have a wide catchment area taking students from Skegness, the surrounding area and as far as Boston, Alford and Louth.

The trust has made a strong contribution to improving the school's facilities, strengthening its leadership and improving the quality of teaching. Pupils' achievement has improved since the last inspection, especially in English, Mathematics and Science. Pupils made good progress in these subjects last year. Middle-attaining pupils did particularly well. Some pupils made excellent progress. The school's arrangements to safeguard pupils are strong. Pupils feel safe and know how to stay safe.”
