Job overview

GFM Education are looking to appoint a dynamic individual to the post of Head of Finance across all of its academies. The successful candidate will provide leadership and management to the GFM’s finance function to enable the GFM to run smoothly, efficiently and effectively in the delivery of the GFM’s core aims.

Reporting to the Executive Finance Director, the post holder will play a crucial role in the strategic planning and preparation of annual budgets and future financial forecasting models, ensuring the GFM maintains robust accounting, reporting and internal control systems and leading the development and future growth of the financial team.

An integral part of this post is financial management and the successful post holder will need to be highly competent in this area – it is essential that the successful candidate will have an Accountancy/Auditor background (ACA/CIMA/ACCA/ CIPFA) with preferred knowledge of the education sector.

The role calls for somebody who will not be fazed by interruptions in a busy school environment and has an interest in working in a community where you would be contributing to the progress and health & wellbeing of our learners.

The GFM is a local solution that will champion the needs of Gosport and Fareham learners across all phases of education – Secondary, Primary and SEN. The GFM recognises the need to work in partnership with Hampshire County Council and all local schools to build better outcomes and opportunities for the young people of Gosport and Fareham. It is through our collective endeavor that we can make a difference, with Gosport and Fareham learners’ achievement being greater and aspiring them further. The local commitment to this initiative is overwhelming – schools and communities see this as an opportunity for a group of schools to become greater than the sum of their parts. The newly appointed members and directors have a clear ambition and belief in local schools working together for the benefit of all their young people.

Safeguarding statement

A 'prohibition from teaching' check will be completed for all shortlisted teaching candidates including those applying for a teaching assistant/Cover Supervisor/Other work deemed directly involved with pupils where it is indicated that they have qualified teacher status or have previously worked as a teacher. We are located in Gosport in the south east county of Hampshire. Gosport is an increasingly popular coastal destination with a strong naval heritage. Gosport benefits from being a stone’s throw from Portsmouth and its many amenities and has excellent transport links. We take our responsibilities to our learners and their parents very seriously, and work together:

  • To ensure every learner achieves to their very best
  • So no learner is left behind at any stage
  • Doing all we can to make sure every learner has quality learning experiences in and beyond the classroom and that we look after their well being

In partnerships to ensure our school community is the best it can be.

How do we measure our success?

By looking at every learner’s achievement and progress:

  • GCSE results
  • progress made in every subject across different stages of the year
  • how our pupil’s achievement compares to others across the country
  • how well our tutor time supports pupil’s achievement and well being

By looking at the quality of teaching and learning, specifically:

  • how we are developing pupil’s independent learning
  • how well we feedback to our pupils so they know how to improve
  • how good every learning experience is
  • By looking at how well we use evidence to plan appropriate interventions, use these interventions and then see how successful they are on individuals or groups of learners.

We also look at how we are constantly developing our teachers and support staff in meeting these goals.
