Salary: Circa £45,000 per annum dependent on experience

Working pattern: 37 hours per week, all year round

Reporting to: Trust Board (through the Chair of the Board)

Pontefract Academies Trust is a cross-phase Multi Academy Trust compromising of eight schools, six primary schools and two 11-16 secondary schools, all located within a tight geographic hub within Pontefract. It is a thriving trust that has been on a sustained journey of improvement in recent years and is ambitious to improve further, positively impacting more lives.

The Trust recognises the importance of outstanding governance at all levels and is now seeking to appoint its first Head of Governance. This is a key strategic role for the Trust, and you will be the lead governance professional responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring governance arrangements throughout the organisation ensuring all statutory and regulatory compliance requirements are met.

You will be part of the Trust central team and also work closely with individual schools to ensure their governance is fully compliant, whilst at the same time working effectively and dynamically supporting improvements where required. A further key dimension will be ensuring effective procedures and systems link the various layers of governance – School Performance Review Boards, the board of trustees and the members of the trust – so that information flows efficiently.

As this is a newly created role it provides an exciting opportunity to shape day-to-day practice. You will have experience of governance and a sound knowledge of educational legislation, guidance and legal requirements.  You must have highly effective influencing and enabling skills, the ability to problem-solve and the confidence to advise the Chair, Trust Board and CEO. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and a proven track record of strategic planning and people management. The desire to help successfully deliver a long-term vision, and a commitment to doing the right thing are essential.

Joining Pontefract Academies Trust at this point in time is an exciting opportunity. The Trust is proud of the improvements in performance of its eight schools and is well positioned to grow its family of schools with an exciting strategic plan that sets out its priorities for the next three years.

Pontefract Academies Trust is a cross phase Multi Academy Trust comprising of nine schools: seven primaries and two 11-16 secondary schools. We are a medium sized family of schools all located within Pontefract. We educate over 3500 children and young people across the town.

The Trust has undertaken a change management programme with a focus upon accelerating the performance of all our schools. The progress to date has been strong but there is more to come. Our collective work has seen one of our secondary schools shift from special measures to being rated good for the first time since 2009. In addition, in 2019 our six primary schools delivered their best SATs outcomes at Key Stage 2 in their history. Consequently, the Trust is in a strong position on which to build. We are honest about our progress as a Multi Academy Trust and whilst we have made great strides recently, we are humble enough to admit that we may not be where we want to be currently and there are things we can do better.

We believe that we have a strong, yet simple mission and vision as a Trust.  We have a set of guiding principles that steer our daily work. It is not over ambitious to say that we aim to create something transformational in our schools in Pontefract. We want to be joined by people that share a passion for improving social mobility and who want to make a difference day in and day out. Our children and young people need the skills and qualifications to operate in an increasingly competitive global workplace. To this end, as educationalists, our role in improving the life chances of the children and young people in our communities should never be underestimated.

The ambition of the Trust is shared by our group of talented and highly dedicated support staff, teachers, leaders and SPRB members at our schools. We are equally grateful to our pupils and parents for their support and commitment.

Please note that you are wholly responsible for fact checking in respect of the information provided by schools. Please also check for the latest visa and work permit requirements that may apply.
