Job overview

St Andrew’s is a flourishing, forward thinking co-educational (290 pupils aged 3 to 13) day/boarding IAPS prep school preparing its pupils for a range of senior schools, both locally and nationally. A number of children win scholarships to their senior schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and energetic teacher who is passionate about teaching History. The School is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and child-centred professional to lead the History Department. This is a great opportunity to join this growing and successful school as a Middle Manager.

It is not essential for the successful candidate to be a current Head of Department but proven experience of being an enthusiastic and passionate classroom teacher who is able to inspire children to be excited about History is absolutely essential!  The post holder will be expected to co-ordinate the teaching of history throughout the school.  An ability to coach games and contribute to school life outside of the classroom would be an advantage.

St. Andrew’s was founded in 1934 and became a charitable trust administered by a board of governors in 1961. Since 1968 the school has been fully co-educational. The estate extends to 54 acres in magnificent Berkshire countryside between the villages of Pangbourne and Bradfield.

In recent years, the number of pupils has been steady at approximately 290, which is the currently intended maximum. Whilst it is predominantly a day school, ‘flexi-boarding’ operates and many children use this during their time at the school. The aim of the school is to provide the best possible broad-based education for children aged 3 to13. Pupils leave with an impressive number of scholarships. This year, seventeen of our twenty-three sixth form (Year 8) leavers have won awards, including academic, music, art and sports.
