Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of an ambitious and dynamic PE Teacher based in Bromley. This is an exciting leadership opportunity.

The Head of Junior School PE will be responsible for leading the Junior School PE department and will have the opportunity to build on the school's excellent reputation for sport and lead on both curricular and co-curricular sporting opportunities.

The role will involve teaching Junior School PE from Reception to Year 6, including swimming from Reception onwards.

The varied sporting co-curricular clubs and an extensive fixture list has enabled the Junior School to build up an excellent reputation over many years for its achievements across a wide range of sports. The Head of Junior School PE will be expected to manage both schedules and lead some of the regular sports clubs held before and after school and at lunchtimes and to accompany girls to fixtures after school, mainly on weekdays but also occasionally on a Saturday.

The successful candidate will have strong experience of teaching girls’ sports, including netball and must have experience of teaching swimming to younger pupils. An excellent degree in PE or a related subject, as well as a passion for PE and the ability to communicate and engage pupils in effective and exciting learning are equally important.

Experience of working in a high performing sporting school would be a distinct advantage.

PE at the School

The school's focus is on providing inclusive opportunities to develop pupils of all abilities, whilst also being able to deliver high quality coaching and support for the squads in many sporting disciplines.

Facilities for sport are excellent. The school is set on a 25-acre site and outdoor facilities consist of one full size astroturf, six netball/eight tennis floodlit courts, plus a 400m grass running track. Indoor facilities include an impressive 25 metre, six lane swimming pool, a traditional gymnasium and a large and well-equipped sports hall.

About the School

The school is a consistently oversubscribed, academically selective girls’ school with 900 pupils from 4-18, occupying a 25-acre parkland site in leafy Bickley, in Kent. In 2018, the school was recognised by ISI as a centre of excellence for training and development of new teachers.

As part of the UK’s leading network of independent girls’ schools, they can offer a variety of benefits, such as:

  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Training grants for qualifications
  • Generous pension schemes
  • Free life assurance benefit
  • Free school lunches
  • A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at the group's schools
  • Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans
  • A Cycle to Work scheme
  • Competitive terms and conditions of employment
  • Access to school multi-gym, swimming pool, yoga classes

Please note that early applications are encouraged and the position may be closed sooner in the event of sufficient suitable applications being received.
