The Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is a leading co-educational day school, educating pupils from Pre-School to Sixth Form on one site. There is a strong whole-school ethos, and an emphasis on full participation both inside and outside the classroom. PGS pupils are encouraged to think not only about where they will be at 18, but where they aspire to be at 25. 

PGS now seeks an outstanding leader with the vision, energy and focus required to lead and manage a highly successful Junior School. The ideal candidate will have a firm belief in the benefits of a through-school education, and they will be committed to supporting every child to achieve their maximum potential and to developing opportunities for Junior School pupils within the context of their continuing education at the school. The Head of Junior School is a key leadership position and will require close collaboration with other senior leaders across the School in the development and implementation of PGS’ strategic vision.

Founded in 1732, The Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 2½ - 18 years, situated in the heart of Portsmouth, Hampshire.  This thriving school is just a stone’s throw from the Solent and comprises of a Pre-School, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form, providing the very best education to 1,348 pupils.

ISI Report 2022

During an ISI Inspection in late 2022 both the achievement of the pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils were found to be excellent - the highest possible classification. The Inspection also looked at the School’s compliance with the regulatory standards and requirements. PGS met all the standards required.
