Job overview

Wellington College International School Bangkok (WCISB) opens its doors in August 2018. The full Junior School (2-11 years old) will open at that point and the Senior School will follow naturally. The Junior School comprises Pre-Prep, which includes classes from Pre-Nursery to Year 2, and the Prep School, which covers Year 3 to 6. The School will follow the EYFS and National Curriculum for England, enhanced with elements of the IPC as appropriate. Strong co-curricular and after-school programmes are fundamental elements of a Wellington education and teachers will play a very big part in these aspects of the School day.

In common with our sister schools, Wellington College in Berkshire and the four schools that currently make up Wellington College China, we have a strong philosophy of education, which can be summed up in the Wellington Identity—Inspired, Intellectual, Independent, Individual and Inclusive—and the Wellington Values—Courage, Respect, Integrity, Kindness and Responsibility.

The life of a WCISB teacher will be busy and it will be hard work. It will also be immensely rewarding. Successful candidates will have an honours degree plus PGCE and/or QTS. Further qualifications and evidence of ongoing training or study in the field of education are desirable but not essential. Experience of teaching in a British Primary or Junior School is necessary and knowledge of British international schools an advantage. Being an excellent teacher, as evidenced by confidential references from current and past employers, as well as direct observation by WCISB senior staff, is essential; experience of teaching a range of age groups an advantage. We expect all our staff to be motivated, committed, respectful, inclusive, intellectual, independent, individual, inspired, reliable, tenacious, culturally aware and sensitive, calm, flexible and able to laugh at themselves.

The Head of Learning Support will have a significant teaching timetable and will design and coordinate an outstanding programme of individual support across the School. Initially it will be a Junior School position but a whole-School role may be available in due course for the right person.

Please have a look at the downloadable resources for full details of this exciting opportunity to be part of the founding team of teachers in this very prestigious school in the wonderful city of Bangkok.

Wellington College Bangkok

Wellington College Bangkok’s mission is to deliver the most exceptional international education in Thailand—and across the region. We are proud and thrilled to be able to provide a very important piece in the jigsaw of Bangkok’s growing prominence as a Southeast Asian hub, and we are delighted to welcome families of all nationalities.

Our School is purpose-built on an expansive greenfield campus. The buildings, designed by world-class architects, are airy and modern yet retain echoes of the grandeur of the past. Our sports provision includes a full Olympic-size 50-metre pool, a huge gymnasium, a 400-metre track, sports pitches, basketball and tennis courts, indoor and outdoor golf facilities. Our fully-equipped classrooms, Learning Studios, Reading Rooms, Harkness rooms, Faculty Salons, our extraordinary 600-seat Theatre, our stylish Copenhagen Café (named after the Duke of Wellington’s favourite horse), our equally chic Café 1815, as well as the recreation areas—the green of the trees and the grass, the blue of the water—all play their part in making the experience of being at Wellington unique, exciting and, on top of that, fun.

The global family of Wellington Colleges—in the UK, China, here in Thailand, and shortly in India—has a very strong reputation for the development of academic excellence, international-mindedness, leadership, responsibility, service to others, outstanding pastoral provision and an exceptionally rich programme of co-curricular activities.

Our values grow from those of our close partner school, the world-renowned Wellington College in Berkshire. It is a fundamental principle that every child can thrive when provided with outstanding, wide-ranging and open-ended opportunities to develop, explore and learn. Our students’ individual responses to these opportunities, shepherded by some of the best teachers in the world and supported by our uniquely dedicated pastoral teams, can set them on the path to extraordinary academic achievement—which, at Wellington, routinely goes hand-in-hand with excellence in performing and visual arts, sport and service to others. This is what it means for the whole child to flourish.
