Job overview

The Post

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and care for the youngest pupils at Bloxham school at a strategic level. The post holder will have oversight of the academic and pastoral provision of the Lower School (1st and 2nd Form). It would be ideally suited to someone aspiring to Deputy Headship. The Head of Lower school is also the Head of the Lower School Boarding House and is assisted by an experienced staff team.

The School

Bloxham School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 to 18, situated in the heart of Bloxham village in north Oxfordshire. The school was founded in 1860 by the Revered Philip Egerton and continues to provide a secure, friendly environment for its cohort of around 400 students, whilst offering facilities and opportunities worthy of a school of double its size.  Bloxham is a smaller HMC school, but it has big ambitions and a strong ethos. The individual matters at Bloxham and the expectation is that every child will flourish. A Bloxham education is underpinned by its five Hallmarks:

A Passion for Learning

A Balanced Curriculum

A Gold Standard of Pastoral Care

The Development of Character

Christian Values

Main points of entry are at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Those students joining at 11+ spend two years in Bloxham’s Lower School. In small, co-educational tutor groups, they are guided through a broad curriculum and activities programme, as we start laying the foundations of a Bloxham education.

To apply, please complete the Bloxham School application form and submit this with a covering letter outlining why your qualifications and experience make you suitable for this role. All applications are to be emailed to recruitment@bloxhamschool.com by Thursday 22 February 2018.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 27 February 2018.

Bloxham School is an independent co-educational boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, situated in the beautiful conservation village of Bloxham, Oxfordshire. Bloxham School is only three miles from the M40 London – Birmingham motorway and yet has all the appeal of the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswold village. We are proud to boast state-of-the-art facilities for academic work, sport, technology, and the arts on a single-site campus steeped in a rich history. With around 530 students, Bloxham is small enough to ensure that each student receives individual attention, yet large enough to offer every opportunity a school twice its size could deliver.

The school has a good mix of boarders, day-boarders and day pupils and regardless of their boarding status, all students enjoy the same high standard of all-round education, excellent pastoral care and access to facilities.

The school offers a supportive, caring, and friendly environment that allows pupils to develop character and sense of self-worth. The individual matters at Bloxham School and the expectation is that every child will flourish. We believe this is a special place in which young people can grow, explore, learn, and reach their full potential.

The academic component of a Bloxham education is tailored at each stage to help every student develop a love of learning whilst reaching their full potential. Bloxham’s broader curriculum offers over 100 options, ranging from mainstream sports to minor ones, and from music, drama and art, to astronomy and cooking. We inspire new passions amongst our pupils, allowing them to both experience breadth and develop expertise.
