Job overview

Sandwell College is a great place to work; a large, successful, richly diverse and growing college that has achieved significant success over recent years and has further, big ambitions for its future.

With over 5,200 young people studying there it has significant plans for further expansion across its core 16-18 market, apprenticeships and Higher Education. It is also working on skills development for adult students and has 4,000 students enrolled on these programmes. The college has two state of the art campuses in West Bromwich accessible through excellent transport links and, having recently merged with Cadbury College, now has a dedicated Sixth Form College in Birmingham.

This is an exciting time for the college to develop its work with schools and it has approval to act as an academy sponsor.    Working in close collaboration with the Principal, who is keenly aware of the value of an effective marketing function, the successful candidate will review and develop marketing, communication and engagement; raising the profile of the college and developing strong relationships with a range of key stakeholders.

They will be target driven, able to translate ideas and activities into measurable outcomes, comfortable and able to relate to a wide range of students who in many instances are from challenging backgrounds. They will be resilient, respond positively to challenge and setbacks, and have the ability to reflect and improve.   Marketing expertise and a lively and enthusiastic approach are key along with a warm, vibrant and bright personality with skills to easily relate to people but having presence and an ability to confidently promote the College too.

The successful candidate will have an immaculate, professional appearance and be able to convey their personality to quickly establish rapport, and will be comfortable hosting events and confident in speaking to large audiences. The appointee will be naturally inquisitive in seeking out information and eager to quickly gain an understanding of the college.

They will have experience of effectively managing teams, setting clear goals and targets and tracking progress. They will be capable of developing creative new ways of connecting the college to its client base and how new and innovative approaches will convert communication with potential customers into reality.

This post offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and professional leadership team who is relentless in driving up student outcomes and the quality of the student experience and combines the opportunity to develop a clear strategy with a hands-on operational approach.  The post-holder will possess good analytical abilities and strong intellect.

They will be comfortable in using data to develop campaigns and to inform the development of new products and sectors and will hold responsibility for the customer journey from application through to interview, 'keeping warm' strategies and enrolment processes.

The person appointed will be responsible for managing a significant budget and for the development of indicators that demonstrate a return on the College investment. If you have proven marketing expertise, genuine enthusiasm and energy for a sector like ours; are an outgoing and effective communicator and have previous, successful experience gained within a people centred environment then get in touch.

This is a great opportunity to play a real part in achieving our goals, and in making a difference to the lives of the students we serve.
