Wellow House School is a highly regarded independent co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged between 3 and 13 years, based in Newark, Nottinghamshire.   We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Head of Mathematics to join the School.  

Our location and beautiful grounds provide the ideal setting for creating a secure and happy atmosphere, which encourages each child to develop their gifts and unlock their potential.  

We place great emphasis on providing a supportive and caring educational environment and pastoral care is a key element of life at Wellow House. With small classes throughout, teachers are able to educate, encourage and nurture pupils on an individual level and help in the development of their knowledge, character and personality.

We encourage each child to develop as an individual in a friendly but purposeful learning environment, combining a high standard of academic education with a variety of extra-curricular sports and activities. 

As Head of Mathematics, you will:

- Raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and  monitor and support pupil progress

- Be  accountable for pupil progress and development within the subject area

- Develop and enhance the teaching practice of others both within and across departments

- Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and  differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the department, in   accordance with the aims of the school and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body, the Head and the Director of Studies

- Be  accountable for leading, managing and developing the subject/curriculum area

- Effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical  resources within the department to support the subject curriculum

Wellow House School is an independent, co-educational preparatory school in Nottinghamshire.  Located in Newark, it accommodates 150 students aged 2-13.   The School began as a preparatory school for boys aged 7-13 in 1971, in the kitchen and sitting room of a family home in Ravenscar. The school began welcoming girls in the early 1980s and the pre-prep was added in 1986.

We place great emphasis on providing a supportive, caring educational environment at the school with pastoral care a central element of life at Wellow House. With small classes throughout, teachers are able to educate, encourage and nurture pupils on an individual level and help in the development of their knowledge, character and personality. The vibrant learning environment is one where children feel safe, happy and challenged to always achieve their best.

Values and vision

Wellow House School aims to provide a broad curriculum for its students and for each pupil to hone their own strengths and talents. Their family-orientated approach to learning means every student is known by all members of staff and their progress can be accurately monitored. Sport is also an important aspect of the students’ education. The school boasts a heated, indoor swimming pool, a sports hall, tennis court and hockey and rugby pitches.

Wellow House prioritises English and maths, encouraging speaking, listening and reading skills as well as numeracy skills in all of its students. The school also fosters creative work in art and design and encourages sport in everyday life, enabled by excellent facilities.

"Overall, pupils’ achievement is good. From the EYFS onwards, pupils are successfully educated and the school’s aims are fulfilled. Standards are above average, and many pupils make good progress over time in relation to their ability. Pupils benefit from and enjoy an all-round education and achieve a commendable range of successes in curricular and extra-curricular activities, particularly in sport, where several achieve county recognition."
