Job overview

“This is a good school”

“Pupils are encouraged to see their potential, aim high and work hard”

Ofsted 2015

The Governors are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and dynamism for our Maths Faculty to start in September 2019. The successful candidate will have a clear vision of how the teaching of maths should develop over the next few years and have the passion and expertise to implement a relevant, challenging curriculum that inspires and motivates our students.

The faculty is housed in 6 classrooms and is taught by five full time well qualified teachers and two part-time.  The Head of Faculty is supported by a Second in Maths who is responsible for the Maths Mastery scheme. Pittville is part of the Balcarras Teaching Partnership in Cheltenham and also plays a key part in the local Maths Hub. We offer Further Maths at GCSE to stretch and challenge our most able mathematicians in their transition to A level. We have close links with local post-16 sixth forms and colleges who are supportive of our curriculum developments.

The successful candidate will be joining a successful faculty which has high expectations for the students they teach. An ability to work well in a team and demonstrate an innovative and inspirational approach to teaching and learning is essential.

Pittville School is a good 11-16 school situated in a superb setting in the heart of Cheltenham.  Results are rising year on year and we are particularly proud that visitors to our school always comment on the excellent behaviour and attitude to learning exhibited by our pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a developing faculty and be part of our school improvement journey.  The school is consistently oversubscribed in Year 7.

If you are committed and hard-working and want to join us at a very exciting time in our development, please contact: Linda Ferrabee on 01242 548755 or download an information pack from the school’s website: www.pittville.gloucs.sch.uk or by emailing jobs@pittville.gloucs.sch.uk

Closing date for applications is 18th February 2019 at 12:00 midday

Interviews on 27th February to be confirmed

Pittville School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required.

Pittville School is a vibrant, forward-looking and rapidly improving Foundation school in Cheltenham.  It is our belief that every young person has gifts, talents and abilities and it is our aim to recognise and unlock each child’s potential and therefore maximise their life chances.  Our priority is to work in partnership with parents and students to help them achieve the very best possible success.  We firmly believe that each student should be challenged intellectually, creatively, personally and socially in preparation for their future life.

We recognise that good relationships are at the heart of the best education.  To support high quality learning we ensure that the school has a well organised, happy, calm and disciplined environment.  We uphold the traditional values of discipline, courtesy, good manners and respect.  At Pittville School high standard of behaviour and appearance are expected both in and out of the classroom.  We do not tolerate anything or anyone that prevents learning from taking place or brings the school into disrepute.

Pittville is a smaller than average school with approximately 900 students.  We are a true comprehensive school and celebrate our diversity.  We are proud of our calm, friendly atmosphere.  Because of our size we are able to offer a level of personalised learning and pastoral support that is just not possible in some larger schools.

We look forward to welcoming you to ‘Team Pittville’ where every child really does matter.
