Reporting to: Laura Dobbs - Head of Primary and Ma’am Dolly – The Principal 

Responsible for: Maths across the Primary school 

Main purpose  


The Head of Maths will: 

  • Oversee the Maths curriculum across the Primary school 
  • Formulate the aims and objectives of the subject 
  • Establish policies for achieving these aims and objectives 
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in Maths teaching and learning 
  • Ensure that curriculum coverage, continuity and progression allows for all children to progress, including SEND, G and T and EAL students 
  • Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the subject and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement; taking action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning 
  • Lead CPD sessions for staff and coach staff where needed 
  • Analyse and interpret relevant school data, to inform policies and department/school SEF writing 
  • Organise and promote Maths events during the school year 
  • Participate in or lead parent workshops  
  • Maintain the ethos of the school in all that is undertaken both inside and outside of the classroom

Person specification  

Qualifications  and training  

  • Qualified teacher status (Essential)  
  • Undergraduate Degree (Essential)  
  • Professional development in preparation for a leadership role (Essential)  

Experience  

  • Teaching experience of at least 2 years (Essential)   
  • Involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning (Desirable - KHDA or ADEK Framework Experience Preferred)   
  • Line management experience (Preferred).  

Skills and knowledge  

  • Understanding of high-quality teaching, and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve (Essential)  
  • Ability to teach students from Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and 2 (Desirable)  
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)  
  • Ability to communicate a vision and inspire others (Essential)  
  • Ability to build effective working relationships(Essential)  
  • Ability to lead successful departments or multi-disciplinary staff  (Essential)  

Personal qualities  

  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school (Essential)  
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively (Essential)  
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times (Essential)
