This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful school as part of a friendly and very hard working department.  Established as a brand new school in 2002, we moved into our award-winning £30 million accommodation in 2005.  The school is located within easy reach of central London via the District Line and yet just minutes by car from the Essex countryside.

In 2016/17, JRCS achieved another set of outstanding outcomes at GCSE and A Level.  The school’s KS4 Progress 8 score was +0.45 which was significantly above national average.  At KS5, the progress score was also positive with the average grade for A Levels a strong C+.  For 2017/18, we are again predicting a positive Progress 8 score and our average grade at A Level has risen to B-.  This is a strong indication of the high quality of teaching and learning at the school.  Our Sixth Form provision works in close partnership with four other local schools, to deliver a high quality Post-16 education for our students. 

We pride ourselves on being a truly inclusive school and this is actively underpinned by our motto ‘Success for All’.  Academic rigour runs alongside a commitment to extra-curricular activities and we offer our students a wide range of opportunities to pursue their studies both inside and outside the classroom.  Our extensive range of extra-curricular activities, together with trips to Rome, Berlin, France, Borneo, the WWI trenches in Ypres, skiing in the USA, and our highly regarded Duke of Edinburgh programme, is second to none and ensures all students get the chance to extend their academic, social and cultural experiences outside of the classroom.  New staff are encouraged to participate in trips.

The school’s most recent OFSTED report described the school as good with outstanding leadership and governance and outstanding spiritual, moral, social and cultural provision; this judgement was reinforced at our last Section 8 inspection in November 2017.

Media at JRCS

JRCS have a rare and really exciting opportunity to appoint a motivated, dynamic and passionate Head of Media Studies to lead a highly successful department. Media is thriving at JRCS; we have a cohort of over 120 students in Key Stage 4 and 30 A Level students who we see flourish year on year. For the past 5 years our results have been significantly above national average, with 85% of GCSE students securing grades A* - C in 2018.  We currently teach the new Eduqas specification at GCSE and A Level, and the students are really enjoying learning a range of set media products from ‘Pokémon Go’ at GCSE, to ‘Straight Outta Compton’ at A Level. Vision of the School

At The Jo Richardson Community School we are committed to reaching the highest standards in everything we do. We want all our students to achieve the best possible examination results as well as have the opportunity to take part in the widest range of extra-curricular activities. We strongly believe this can only happen in a well-ordered and respectful environment where only the highest standards of behaviour are acceptable, and where all our teachers are fully committed and able to ensure our goals become a reality.

Success For All

Central to our work is the motto ‘Success For All’ which underpins our belief that every individual has the opportunity to gain high quality academic qualifications. These enable students to progress to college, university or a good job when they leave us. The curriculum we offer provides both a wide range of traditional academic subjects as well as more practical work-related courses.

We also want our students to develop opportunities to succeed outside the classroom. Our extra-curricular provision provides a range of opportunities for achievement that will develop confidence and build self-esteem. Our student council also plays an important role within the school, and is just one example of how we seek to develop our students’ leadership skills.

None of this can be achieved, however, if the ethos isn’t right. We believe it is our responsibility to make sure students feel happy and secure at school. We do not tolerate any disruptive behaviour that has an effect upon the progress of others.

We operate a bullying and behaviour policy based on zero tolerance. In the rare event that a student is involved in bullying or in disrupting lessons they are automatically excluded from school and not allowed back into circulation until we are confident that problems will not recur. We make no apology for the hard line we take in this respect – students need to know they can come to school free from the fear of intimidation, and where their lessons will be focused on achieving academic success.
