Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of MFL looking for promotion or a new challenge in an Outstanding Trust?

Come and join our outstanding team at Outwood Academy Carlton!

Achieving Academy status in February 2016 as part of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, Outwood Academy Carlton is going from strength to strength. Based in the attractive village of Carlton, we offer an exceptional education and are enjoying significant improvement across every key measure and in every subject. In December 2015, Ofsted noted that “senior leaders have a clear vision for the school” and that “all aspects of school life have been transformed”, with the result that “pupils feel well cared for”. You can help us take things to the next level.

We are seeking a Head of MFL with the drive and vision to deliver excellence in MFL at a time of changes at GCSE and a rise in importance due to the focus on EBacc subjects. With a clear focus on outstanding outcomes for students, you will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL and rapidly raise standards at GCSE.

Outwood Academy Carlton is situated in North East Barnsley and is easily accessible from South and West Yorkshire, with Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Pontefract all within commuting distance. We are just 5 miles from the M1.

In December 2015, our fantastic work was recognised by Ofsted, when they moved the school from ‘Special Measures’ to ‘Good’ (in all areas).

Outcomes for students have improved hugely over the last 3 years across all measures; for example, the proportion of students achieving a grade 4 or better in English and mathematics has risen a staggering 35% to 68% during this period. We are now performing at or above the national average across the board and are the top performing school in Barnsley. Outcomes will continue to improve, with Ofsted stating that “Attainment and progress demonstrate rapid improvement for current pupils”.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is nationally recognised as one of the highest preforming academy trusts in the country.

Outwood Academy Carlton is one of 21 secondary schools in Outwood Grange Academies Trust, it is a warm and welcoming school where students love to learn and are motivated to achieve. Being part of the Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools. In MFL there is a dedicated team of Directors who provide subject specific CPD and in school support to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding outcomes for all students.

We are looking for an inspiring leader who has high aspirations for both staff and students, who is committed, and passionate about language learning. Leadership experience is not essential, but applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills required to lead a department.

If you are interested, please apply now! We invite you to contact Ms Kathryn Hawkins (k.hawkins@outwood.com) Associate Director for MFL, should you have any questions or require further details. A visit to the school is encouraged and can be arranged if required.
