About Cathedral Academy
Cathedral Academy is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school with a thriving specialism in Performing Arts and an outstanding Post 16 provision for Performing and Production Arts. Building on the success of CAPA College, which has a national reputation, we also offer an exciting 11-16 provision for young people with a real desire to pursue an education and career pathway in the Arts. CAPA Juniors, like CAPA draws students from across the region.
Cathedral Academy is the only Church of England secondary school in Wakefield and has a Christian ethos which nurtures and celebrates the individuality of every student, whether they are students with or without a faith of their own. We are firmly committed to providing the highest standards of care, guidance and support to our students and believe that safeguarding is of paramount importance. We take very seriously our duty of care to young people. Alongside our mission and pledge for students, we also follow a clear and consistent code of conduct for behaviour and have specialist teams of student liaison officers and student support staff, who are dedicated full time to the pastoral support of students and their families.
This is an exciting time to be considering joining Cathedral Academy as it is in the advanced stages of becoming part of Trinity Multi Academy Trust who will continue to support the school in its journey to build on its success .
The school is presently under new leadership, the Principal prior to appointment at Cathedral, was based at Trinity’s flagship school in Halifax and has been part of transforming education for the young people in north Halifax. Our recent Ofsted (Nov 2016) stated ‘ There has been swift, sustained improvement since the last inspection’. ‘The school has benefited enormously from its relationship with Trinity Multi Academy Trust. This has been central to improving teachers’ skills and improving leadership at all levels.’ It praised the school on the behaviour of its pupils and its rich and vibrant curriculum and stated that the Principal leads with vision and commitment with the backing of all staff. We are looking for highly motivated people to join us on the journey, taking Cathedral to the next level.
We are strongly focused on academic success for all our students. This is reflected in our mission statement: Believe, Achieve, Succeed and in the broad curriculum we offer, which allows students to follow a personalised pathway including a range of academic and vocational options.
At Cathedral Academy, we believe that teaching and learning should be engaging, exciting and challenging to our students and we strive to provide memorable and high quality learning experiences both inside the classroom and outside through our excellent and extensive extra-curricular activities programme and enrichments opportunities.
Staff development is a priority at Cathedral Academy. All members of our teaching team benefit from an individual CPD conversation with a senior member of staff, in which training needs and career aspirations can be discussed in some detail. We offer an extensive CPD package, including whole staff training, critical skills pathways and a bespoke programme. We also offer coaching and ‘open classroom’ weeks.
Together, we aspire towards the highest standards and the best outcomes for our students. At Cathedral Academy, we challenge and support each other, staff and students alike, in a caring, vibrant and happy community. We celebrate our success and constantly strive towards excellence.
