Job overview

We are seeking a Head of MFL with the drive and vision to deliver excellence in languages lessons for all year groups. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’. You will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL to ensure outstanding outcomes for students and increased numbers studying MFL at GCSE.

The role is expected to commence in January 2023, although we can accommodate an exceptional candidate that is available to start in September.

Outwood Academy Redcar is a ‘good’ school (OFSTED NOV 21) with many strengths. Supporting and developing of staff, including those new to the Academy was identified as an area of excellence, by OFSTED. Being part of the Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools. In MFL there is a dedicated team of Directors who provide subject specific CPD and in school support to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding outcomes for all students.

The MFL Department at Outwood Academy Redcar currently offers French and Spanish to GCSE and therefore it is desirable for applicants to be able to teach both languages to GCSE. In Year 7 from Sept 2021 we have started a trial where our students study both languages and have the choice of continuing as dual linguist or specialising in one language from Year 8 onwards. The MFL department is small and welcoming. Our vision is to open a window on the world to students in the local area and inspire them to be confident communicators and rounded individuals. We are looking for an inspiring leader who has high aspirations for both staff and students, who is committed, and passionate about language learning. Leadership experience is not essential, but applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills required to lead a department.

If you are interested, please apply now! We invite you to contact Kathryn Hawkins (k.hawkins@outwood.com) should you have any questions or require further details. Informal conversations are welcomed and encouraged ahead of an application. A visit to the school can be arranged if required.
