Winchester College seeks to appoint a well-qualified, innovative and energetic Head of Modern Languages.
The successful candidate will be a dual linguist, who is able to teach at least one language, but preferably both, to Pre-U and university entrance level. They will be enthusiastic about promoting and developing the department, which is strongly represented at Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities. French, German, Spanish, Russian are taught to Pre-U level, and Chinese is taught to GCSE.
The College, which was founded in 1382, is a boys’ boarding school of 700 pupils. We are committed to the highest standards of academic excellence, first class pastoral care and the maintenance of a broad and balanced liberal education for all our pupils. Through our non-examined general cultural studies programme (known as Division) we offer an approach to education which develops an intelligent and critical awareness of the world, strong communication skills and a confident ability to think independently and with originality. In addition to teaching Modern Languages, applicants may be required to teach Division.
This post will suit teachers of the highest calibre who will relish the challenge of working with able and articulate pupils in a historic site of unparalleled architectural beauty in the heart of Winchester.
All our full time teachers are expected to act as tutors in one of the eleven boarding houses, thereby making a significant contribution to the pastoral care of our pupils. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute in some capacity to our sports and co-curricular programme.

About Winchester College
Situated in Hampshire, Winchester College is an independent, secondary school for pupils aged between 13 and 18. The school was founded in 1382 by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham. It was expanded in the 19th Century to accommodate the popular demand in the local society. At the moment, there are over 700 pupils enrolled at the boarding school.
