Job overview

Haberdashers' Adams

“An Outstanding School” in all four categories – Ofsted November 2013

We are a boy's school with co-educational Sixth Form. There are currently 960 pupils on roll; approximately 100 of these are boarders. The Sixth Form has about 340 students of whom just over 100 are girls.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Head of Music who is able to teach across the whole age range, including GCSE, AS-level and A-level courses, as well as making a substantial contribution to the extra-curricular life of the School.

You will be joining a department that is both highly valued and very high-profile in the School. Adams prides itself on cultivating young people who are caring, kind and sensitive to the world around them and we believe the arts in all their forms play a huge part in this. In your role we would expect you to be not just inspirational but also leading from the front as an experienced, knowledgeable and dynamic colleague, working in an environment of high standards and positive support.

In terms of extra-curricular music, there is a very strong tradition of music and music-making at the School and this is something that the successful candidate will be expected to continue and develop. We have an annual House Music competition that is fiercely contested and actively involves several hundred students. Alongside this we have an annual summer production which we pride ourselves on being of the highest quality, (recent shows have included “West Side Story,” “My Fair Lady”, “Grease” and “Les Misérables”). We also hold regular “Live at Lunchtime” concerts and evening recitals to allow musicians to perform in a formal setting to an audience and the school runs a variety of choirs, bands and an orchestra.

The School is committed to the professional development of all our teaching staff and offers a programme of staff development and in-service training.

For further information please contact the Deputy Head i/c Curriculum, Dr Pack, on peter.pack@adamsgs.uk

Closing date for applications is midday on Monday 19th April 2021.

Interviews will be held during week commencing 26th April 2021.
