The main purpose of the post is to ensure students at William Perkin are supported by the pastoral programme, and pastoral teams, to make outstanding academic progress within the wider context of their full personal, social and spiritual progression.  The role has been established to ensure all students are on curriculum programmes that allow them to engage fully and stretch, that academic intervention programmes are effective and that success of students is consistently celebrated. The role will have a particular focus on students in years 9 and 10 and, in addition, on ensuring that key cohorts within those year groups achieve in line with their peers, namely boys and pupil premium students.

The shortlisted candidates are likely to be highly successful subject leaders with experience in implementing and upholding strong pastoral strategies as the role combines leadership of effective curriculum & assessment with a very wide range of pupil support issues.  Pastoral and Wider Learning programmes directed by the Head of Progress and Progression must excite, stimulate and challenge all students.  The new post-holder will manage pastoral intervention programmes and work closely with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure safeguarding policies and processes are thorough and effective.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the drive to lead a pastoral team committed to achieving outstanding results for all students irrespective of ability, and will be enthused by the prospect of maintaining a student learning culture which is engaging and aspirational.  The Head of Progress and Progression KS4 must offer outstanding leadership and management to the pastoral team and have effective communication with students, parents, colleagues and outside agencies. S/he will set high standards for students in all aspects of school life, and support colleagues to maintain these. This role presents a unique professional development opportunity for a candidate who already has some experience in supporting pupil progress and progression – s/he will be able to develop within a visionary and enterprising context, and with the support of an experienced Executive team.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has six year groups (7 - 12) totalling almost 1,000 students in Year 7 – 11 and around 160 students in Year 12. The school is founded on the successful systems and approaches of Twyford CE High School, with the principle difference that it is a distinctively Christian school with open admission criteria. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – opened in September 2018 and is temporarily based in additional accommodation at the William Perkin site until its own new building opens in September 2020. Ada Lovelace currently has 125 students in Year 7.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
