Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a committed leader in Special Education to play a key role in building a new provision and to contribute to a broader vision for excellence and collaboration.

Capella House is a brand new special Free School, opening in September 2019, subject to the final approvals from the DfE. The school will eventually have places for 72 pupils aged 4-19, all of whom have with an EHCP for speech, language and communication difficulties, which may include autism.

The school is part of the Auriga Academy Trust, which also includes Clarendon School, the Gateway Centre and Strathmore School. The Executive Headteacher of Clarendon also has overall strategic responsibility for the Gateway Centre and Capella House School.

The Capella House Secondary Centre will be co-located with a mainstream secondary school (Richmond-upon-Thames school) and the Clarendon School Secondary Centre, in new purpose-built accommodation in central Twickenham, offering a 21st Century learning environment with excellent opportunities for inclusion and the sharing of outstanding practice. The Primary Centre is to be on another site, also in central Twickenham, with a scheduled opening date in September 2020.

The Head of School for Capella House will have day-to-day responsibility for the leadership and management of both the Primary and Secondary Centres of the school and is therefore a key role, as reflected by the pay scale.

We are looking for an exceptional, experienced, successful and innovative leader, skilled in working with pupils with diverse special needs including speech, language and communication difficulties to lead the new school through the pre-opening and opening phases, build the staff team and to develop it into a centre of excellence. The Head of School will support the Executive Headteacher, Auriga Academy Trust and Local Governing Body to develop outstanding provision at Capella House School and build on the existing successes of the Trust.
