The role of the Head of School is to lead, manage and develop Malvern College Chengdu and provide a nurturing learning environment which emphasises both academic excellence and character development. The Head will be responsible for the development and delivery of Malvern College Chengdu’s mission and values and will be a strategic member of the leadership team, playing a key role in the continuous success and development of the school as a leading bilingual school in Chengdu.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Management Board and Development Team to ensure that the school vision and strategic plan are effective and pertinent to the school's goals, and that these goals are clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon effectively by all stakeholders;
  • Work in close partnership with both Malvern College UK and Malvern College HK to embed a strong Malvern ethos and associated educational practices associated with Malvern schools;
  • Be responsible for, but delegate as necessary, the day-to-day running of the school;
  • Manage the development of the school in accordance to the school’s strategic vision;
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between Senior and Junior Schools, as well as across the Malvern family of schools;
  • Work with the school community to translate the school’s vision into agreed objectives which will promote and sustain continual school improvement and a sense of team ownership;
  • Develop an annual operational plan and budget for the school in line with longer term strategic vision;
  • Provide curriculum development leadership in line with Chinese and UK curriculum standards;
  • Ensure academic and non-academic staff appraisal systems are in place providing clear goals and objectives and where necessary support structures;
  • Attract, retain and develop educational and managerial talent;
  • Lead by example and be an excellent role model for the whole school community;
  • Oversee the pastoral life of the College, ensuring that students and staff are cared for, supported and nurtured;
  • Actively promote the wellbeing of pupils ensuring that the highest standards of  safeguarding and child protection procedures are in place;
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures within the school to meet the requirements of internal and external Quality Assurance processes;
  • Oversee the school facilities to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the premises;
  • Implement and oversee appropriate health and safety practices and procedures ensuring timely reviews and records are kept;
  • With the support from the team, liaise with the local education authorities regarding relevant policies and regulations.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree together with a recognised teaching qualification
  • Boarding experience is advantageous
  • Qualifications in school leadership and management is advantageous
  • Minimum of 8 years of teaching experience, ideally within an international educational environment
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in proven and effective school administration and curriculum leadership and development
  • Strong knowledge and/or experience in KS3, IGCSE, and/or A-level curriculum framework
  • Experience in K-12 throughtrain school is advantageous
  • Experience in teaching second language learners and bilingual environment a strong plus
  • Excellent Command of English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivities
  • Evidence of on-going professional learning and development

Established in September 2015 in partnership with prestigious UK boarding school Malvern College, Malvern College Chengdu is located in the southern development zone of thriving city of Chengdu, China. It is a through-train school for pupils from 3-18 years old.
