Job overview

BURTON BOROUGH SCHOOL

HEAD OF SCHOOL

Leadership Range 11 – 15

We operate a two week timetable, so you will be timetabled for 30 lessons management time and 20 lessons teaching time per fortnight

Burton Borough is undergoing an exciting period of growth and we are delighted to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity to a brilliant candidate who will contribute to the school’s continuing success.

Burton Borough is a vibrant school to work in and our successes were recognised by our recent Ofsted inspection in March 2018:

  • “Behaviour is good.  Pupils are respectful, polite and well mannered.  Relationships between pupils and staff are highly positive”
  • “Pupils look smart in their new uniform, are punctual and well prepared for lessons.  As a result, learning time is hardly every wasted”
  • “The prevailing culture of mutual respect prepared pupils well for life in modern Britain.  Pupils work well and socialise well together, valuing and respecting others’ views” “The new principal is highly ambitious for the pupils.  Leaders have a clear and accurate understanding of how to make the necessary improvements to pupils’ progress”
  • “Safeguarding is effective”

The role of the Head of School is a senior leadership position that is in line with a traditional Assistant Head teacher (AHT)  post.  However, unlike a traditional AHT post, you lead your ‘small school’ and have responsibility for the progress, attainment and well-being of a third of Burton Borough School (approximately 370 students).  Your job role will encompass:

  • leading on the specialist whole school areas:
  1.       Curriculum/Exams,
  2.       Safeguarding
  3.       and Professional Development
  • Being a Designated Safeguarding Lead; duties to be carried out in line with DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education (Sept 2018)
  • Supporting the Principal to model exemplary leadership, raise expectations and standards and promote a caring, values-driven environment in which student achievement is promoted, recognised and celebrated.
  • Modelling and promoting high standards in all areas of the school’s work in order to secure school improvement towards ‘outstanding’ outcomes.

You are very welcome to visit the school on a day you choose so that you can see the school ‘in action’ and see whether it is the place for you, or if you would like an informal chat with the Principal, we would be able to arrange for that too.  Joining a senior leadership team at a new school is an important decision that must be right so do make sure you find out everything about us!
