Job overview

Leadership Pay Scale L6 - L10

Permanent, Full Time

January 2023 Start

New Rickstones Academy is graded ‘Good’ (May 2018) and has a state of the art new building offering fantastic facilities for both students and staff. Over the last 7 years the academy has seen a huge increase in student numbers, with the number of students on roll more than doubling. The academy is now oversubscribed and we have a new build which opened in September 2022 to meet increasing demand.

New Rickstones Academy is a great place to work with a friendly and supportive staff team. Staff numbers have also increased and the academy is proud to boast high staff retention rates. Staff development is a priority with an extensive and hugely successful CPD (Continuing Professional Development) program to further develop our excellent staff.

Every member of staff is a vital part of our committed and ambitious team and we have been very successful at developing teachers and leaders with progression both within, and beyond the academy.

Our “Curriculum Drivers” run through all that we do as we encourage students to be safe, happy, the best they can be, and be proud.

Mastery: delivering excellent teaching & learning and developing excellent learners. Students are ambitious and committed.

Character: developing students into well rounded young people who we can be confident in to “do the right thing when no-one is looking”.

Perspective: how our students fit into the world around them, how they appropriately challenge wrongs, and promote what is right. Students are open minded, compassionate and promote the differences found in all of us.

We are looking for a Head of Science to manage and develop the department, maximising student achievement and progress whilst embedding and delivering a progressive curriculum.

You will lead our large Science department which consists of 7 teachers, including a Second in Department, 2 technicians, 2 prep rooms and 8 labs including facilities in our brand new 2022 building. We currently deliver Science across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 including Combined and Separate Sciences at KS4, A-Levels and BTEC at KS5.

If you are driven to lead and develop a department then we want to hear from you! This role is suited to an experienced middle leader looking to develop their career or a driven teacher looking for their first middle leadership role.
