Job overview
Ref: SCC03226
In Suffolk, we are building a team that can deliver services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities that are among the best and most innovative in England. Our new management team is passionate about transforming the experiences of Suffolk children, young people and their families. We are working closely with our family representatives and our partners in health and social care, and we are proud of the progress we have made since our disappointing SEND inspection in December 2016. However, we still have a great deal to achieve and if you share our values and ambitions, we would love you to join our team. You will need to have the highest standards, be able to deliver change quickly and be willing to give your all. In return, you will have the satisfaction of being part of a strong and vibrant service that makes a real difference for children and young people every day.
As the Head of SEND Services for Children and Young People, you will lead all our child and family facing work, having significant autonomy in the management and oversight of these.
This includes:
- our innovative SEND Assessment Centre programme
- assessment of need for education, health and care plans
- support for families and learners once a plan is in place
- management of exclusions
- admissions to specialist settings and ensuring children with education, health and care plans make good progress and are suitably prepared to take the important steps to prepare for and move into adulthood.
You will work closely with our Provider Relationships and Commissioning team to ensure that, as a service, we can secure the right specialist provision at the right quality for the needs of the children for which you are responsible and work closely with the Assistant Director to implement the council's SEND Strategy.
If you feel this opportunity is for you, we look forward to receiving your application via CV and covering letter, detailing how you meet the person criteria in the Person Profile.
For an informal discussion only, please contact Judith Mobbs on (01473) 264317.
Please read the Job and Person Profile before applying for this role.
Closing date: midday, 12 December 2018.
Interview date: 19 December 2018.
This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks or police vetting will be required for relevant posts.
