Job overview

Renfrewshire Council’s Children’s Services directorate continually strives to provide the best outcomes for all of our children and young people. The directorate is responsible for the delivery of services across all education establishments, child care and criminal justice services. This allows strong and collective planning to take place giving all our children and young people the best possible chances to succeed.

We recently became the first local authority in Scotland to be graded as excellent in making progress towards raising attainment for all while closing the poverty related attainment gap. We now require a motivated individual with a belief that they can make a significant impact in improving outcomes for our children and young people.

The successful candidate will take the lead in implementing and delivering 1140 hours of early learning and childcare as well as the responsibility of ensuring an innovative broad general education is delivered to all of Renfrewshire’s children and young people. This role will demand that you build strong relationships with Heads and staff as well as partners to ensure that we are providing high quality learning and teaching across all centres and schools.

This role, supported by a team of education managers, will also take the lead on maintaining and enhancing our very strong quality improvement agenda across all of our establishments. In addition, the role also offers opportunity to lead in other areas of service delivery including health and well-being, parental partnership and learning through ICT.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be able to influence continual improvement across all sectors of education provision as you will oversee the effective delivery of education across half of Renfrewshire’s schools and centres.

It is essential that you posses a degree or professional qualification in an appropriate discipline together with membership of professional institution/association.

You must also be able to demonstrate a record of achievement at senior management level in an education environment.   A thorough knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to education is also essential, together with extensive and proven experience in strategic policy development and implementation; the development and management of strategic partnerships; and service improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to become part of a directorate who are determined to give all of our children and young people the best opportunities possible. If you want, in the first instance, to have an informal discussion about this opportunity please call the Director of Children’s, Steven Quinn on 0141 618 6839.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
