Values and vision

The Gilberd School is characterised by a positive learning environment and excellent relationships between staff and pupils. Teachers believe children are more likely to be successful within a secure environment that supports them and allows them to grow and develop. The secondary school aims to ensure students leave not only with the best exam results possible, but also with the skills and attributes they need to succeed in their adult lives.

The curriculum is ambitious, with an emphasis on English, Maths and Science and the other English Baccalaureate subjects (Geography, History, French and German). The Gilberd School ensures that students have the opportunity to develop character and creativity through a range of artistic and practical courses, as well as through a diverse programme of extra-curricular activities.

Ofsted report

“The students appreciate the way they are involved in the running of the school and give examples with pride on how they have influenced improvements. Their views on the school rewards system have helped to develop arrangements that promote good motivation and enjoyment in the school very well.”
