We have an opportunity for someone to join our highly motivated and successful team of pastoral leaders. This is a very important appointment to us as the work of the Heads of Year is an important element to the success of our students. This post would suit you if you are looking to develop your pastoral and professional practice. Graded good for Personal Development, behaviour and welfare we are aspiring to an outstanding judgement. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a calm and assertive approach to behaviour management, with the ability to think strategically and worth within the ethos of Hertfordshire Steps. Barnwell School is committed to the development and training of all staff.

Barnwell serves the communities of South Stevenage and the surrounding villages although many students also travel from further afield to Barnwell for their education. The School is unique in the area as it is situated on two campuses allowing the school to be structured as a Middle and Upper School. What we offer is unique in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire. Barnwell School is a mainstream, co-educational, community secondary school for children aged 11-18. It is situated in Stevenage in Hertfordshire and there are currently 1,180 pupils on its roll. 

Barnwell School serves the community of nearby villages in Stevenage. The school is split across two campuses: one for the Middle School (Years 7-9) and one for the Upper School (Years 10-11 and the sixth form).

“The overall attainment of pupils at GCSE rose in 2015. Leaders have secured impressive improvements to pupils’ behaviour, personal development and welfare. Attendance has improved, and the vast majority of pupils and parents are very supportive of the school. Sixth form provision is good. Student numbers are rising because of a varied curriculum offer and effective teaching. Outcomes for vocational qualifications are particularly impressive. Pupils make good progress in mathematics as a result of effective teaching and a well-planned programme of catch-up and support.”
