Job overview

The Governing Body would like to appoint a head of Year with outstanding experience of pastoral care.

A Head of Year is a key role within the pastoral structure of the Academy and is essential in maintaining the purposeful environment in which students make progress and reach their full potential.  

The successful applicant will be committed to our school improvement process and lead on the achievement, behaviour and pastoral development of their year group.  They will be a driving force in ensuring high standards of pastoral care through leading a team of Form Tutors, taking overall responsibility for the welfare and discipline of the year group and identifying students who require additional guidance and support

The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Headteacher – Pastoral.

Berwick Academy is located midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle on the east coast mainline and serves the beautiful coastal community of Berwick upon Tweed in north Northumberland.  We are a co-educational academy for pupils aged 13-18, with 540 pupils approx.

Berwick Academy serves the town and rural area of Berwick-upon-Tweed in North Northumberland.  It is a small, friendly school with approximately 500 pupils aged 13-18, including approx 99 in the sixth form. Our pupils achieve good results, which facilitate progression onto their chosen future course, whether that is employment, apprenticeship or University education. Berwick Academy students are given excellent opportunities to learn outside of the classroom through sport, the arts, educational visits and outdoor education.  Our aim is to help our pupils to develop a love of learning and the values, skills and attitudes that will be required for a purposeful life beyond school.
