Job overview

Chair of Governors: Andrew Collyer, Acting Head Teacher: Jonathan Butcher

The vacancy has arisen following the departure of the Head Teacher in September 2018.

King’s Norton Boys’ School is a 5 form-entry boys’ secondary school for pupils aged 11-16 years, which currently has 630 students on roll.

Impending projects and developments include:

  • A brand new multi-million-pound Sports Hall project scheduled for build in 2019/20 and incorporating a 4-court hall and relevant facilities.
  • Continuing the development of our partnership with the local community and other potential strategic alliances.
  • A strategic vision that sees us becoming a school that is ‘outstanding in all aspects’ and with a student roll of 750-800.

What makes us different?

  • We have a locally renowned School Orchestra, led by our Head of Music, demonstrating an effective and rewarding collaboration with King’s Norton Girls’ School.
  • Our much-admired Outdoor Pursuits department providing a wide range of activities for all boys and supporting participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. A significant component of our overall offering and rare in the maintained school’s sector.
  • Several championship winning football, basketball and sailing teams and crews, signifying our purpose of supporting and developing, confident, capable and resilient student.
  • We are a growing school, oversubscribed and with a recent and successful increase in the PAN to 150.
  • A new drama facility supporting the introduction of drama to our curriculum at year 7.
  • A new 90 seat lecture theatre.
  • A history of over 100 hundred years as an integral part of the King’s Norton community and fantastic ties with our alumni.

The position

There are a small number of Boys’ school in the region and the position of Head Teacher at King’s Boys’ School presents a rare opportunity for a leader to work closely with a strong, supportive Governing Board in achieving the objectives stated in our school’s strategic vision.

Having achieved our first Ofsted ‘Good’ in September 2017, we are in the process of identifying not only the ‘gap’ between this and an ‘Outstanding’ school but also what will make us successful in delivering outstanding personal outcomes for our students; being a proactive and supportive member of our local community and being an effective developer of future school leaders.

Our vision also includes growth in student numbers, to meet demand, with our first ever 5 form entry being September 2018. This underpins our objectives in terms of ongoing operational sustainability and future -proofing.

Successful delivery of the sports hall building project to become a key feature of our school and a revenue generating local community hub is also a key challenge over the next four years. A strategic review of our facilities and subsequent future planning is a key task for 2018/19.

We have a highly skilled, engaged and talented staff body who are passionate to see our school succeed and integral to our relentless drive to realise our strategic vision.

Informal contact with the school is most welcome. Visits to the school should be arranged by contacting Sarah Holland, PA to the Head Teacher.

Closing Date: Friday 5 October 2018, 9am
