Job overview

Head teacher at Hall School, Norwich. Norfolk.

(Complex Needs Special School 3-19 years NOR 80)

Group 4 School: Leadership scale – 7 points within 14 to 27 (£54,250-£73,876)

Due to the retirement of the current post holder, the Governors of Hall School are looking to recruit a full time Head teacher to start in September 2018. Applications are invited from exceptional, motivated and inspirational individuals with a proven track record of successful school leadership in the field of special educational needs. We are looking to recruit an experienced and committed school leader to continue to take the school forward on its journey, from good (Ofsted Nov.14) to outstanding.

Hall School is an all age-phase complex needs school, for pupils with severe learning difficulties. Over 50% of pupils have an additional diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition. The school children are admitted from across the county. There is a wide and rich mix of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Norwich is a fine city of history, culture and shopping and Hall School is situated on the north side just outside the city boundary. It nestles in the corner of Catton Park, a 70 acre Humphry Repton designed landscape, which we enjoy for social and curriculum activities.

Under the guidance of our current Headteacher the school has made significant progress and we as a governing body are proud of the excellent quality of teaching and pupil progress within the school.

In November 2013, Hall School became a foundation school after forming a Co-operative Trust with the other complex needs schools in Norfolk. Trust Norfolk-SEN is a partnership which aims to improve provision and support for all across the Norfolk SEND community. Under foundation status, Hall School remains a local authority maintained school and is accountable to its own governing body.

We are looking forward to welcoming someone with the qualities and drive to take the school forward as we start a new chapter in the development and progression of our school. Our new Head will lead a big staff team of hard working and highly committed staff in supporting children who make us proud to be involved in their school.

At Hall School we are able to offer you:

  • A fun learning environment for children with a real family atmosphere.
  • A great working environment for staff where everyone is valued and treated with respect.
  • Hard working dedicated and committed staff who strive to gain the best for all of our pupils.
  • A fully integrated services model working with Social care, Physio and Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and a range of Health Professionals
  • Supportive parents / carers who will work in partnership with you to achieve the best for their children
  • Amazing pupils who love coming to school and are encouraged to learn the skills that they will need for life outside of school.

An enthusiastic and supportive governing body that put the interests of the children first and are committed to the continual improvement of the school.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children and young people. As a Headteacher we will expect you to be able to have a positive working relationship with the governing body and to be able to understand its role in support and challenge. We want a leader that can work with our current senior leaders, staff teams and build on the good practices we have whilst keeping the school moving forward.

If you are the right person and have the skills and passion to meet the challenges it will be a great opportunity to develop your career and make a real difference to our children, staff, parents and wider community.
