We have an awesome opportunity for a forward thinking and dynamic Head Teacher to join the team at Portfield School. Our school supports children and young people with autism and associated challenges aged 3 – 19.
This role includes all the usual Head Teacher responsibilities of overseeing the day to day operations of the school and ensuring all our students reach their full potential. This role is so much more than that, we are no ordinary school and we have exciting plans ahead and one of your key tasks you will be driving these forward to make a difference to more young people's lives.
Duties would include:
Lead on all strategic development of SEN
Driving curriculum for the school aimed at SEN students
Oversee the improvement of teaching & learning
Take ownership of the school designated budget
Motivate and lead staff to enable a comfortable environment to challenge practice/ support for continuous growth
Ensure high quality education for all students
Develop new ideas for fundraising projects with the team
Working closely with the DSL to maintain safety
What we would like from you:
A background in successful innovation or leading school initiatives/managing change.
A track record of leadership within a school, developing strategic growth
Ability to model the highest expectations of conduct, safe practice and resilience
Good understanding of all the Key Stages.
Significant experience of working with students with Autism.
Degree and Qualified Teacher Status on a leadership scale
A calm exterior coupled with quick thinking and effective problem solving
Detailed understanding of Ofsted and education requirements

The curriculum offer is holistic and enables the self-confidence, resilience and self-advocacy of the students to bloom as well as allowing the individual to achieve accredited qualifications. In addition to academic achievement, we build emotional wellbeing and resilience and develop the students’ social and independence skills.
Our holistic curriculum includes not only education, but also therapy, the development of skills for life, independence, and a focus on accessing the world of work through a highly tailored work experience programme.
