Highland Council is recruiting to the post of Head Teacher at Lochaber High School. Lochaber High School is six-year comprehensive which serves the town of Fort William and the greater Lochaber area, the current roll is 826. The school stands in spectacular surroundings to the north of Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis.
The school building is spacious and generally very well equipped; accommodation includes two small halls, a games hall, theatre, grass pitch and an all-weather pitch. A multimillion pound refurbishment and rebuilding programme – ‘Lochaber 21’ – was recently completed and has brought about
considerable improvements to the campus.
Set in the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’, Lochaber High offers a unique and extensive range of extra-curricular activities. Pupils have the opportunity to participate in art, drama, music and sporting activities as well as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and charity fundraising events. There are strong links with the Commando Veterans’ Association who visit the school at Remembrance weekend each year. The school has arranged an extensive programme of educational trips in this country and abroad including S2 Outdoor Activities, S6 London, ‘Mediterranean Water Sports’, Iceland, Paris, New York, China and Skiing in the French Alps. There is an active and supportive
Parent Council.

Lochaber High School is a co-educational, non-denominational six year comprehensive in the Scottish Highlands. As of the most recent inspection there were 862 students on the school roll. The school is located adjacent to the River Lochy. Lochaber is a district of Fort William, whose 10,000 inhabitants make it the second largest town in the Highlands. The school promotes extra-curricular activities, including sports such as football and sixth year trips to London. The school excels in the sport of shinty, and in previous years have been U14 and U16 national champions. The school was founded in 1960, and has 11 associated primary schools in the area.
