Job overview

Following the impending retirement of the current post holder, we are recruiting a full time Head Teacher to start in January 2019. We are looking to recruit an experienced and committed school leader to take Marshfields forward from a designation as “strong good” (Ofsted September 2016) to one of “outstanding”.

Marshfields is a community special school designated by the local authority for students aged 11-19 with moderate and complex learning difficulties. The school is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac within easy reach of Peterborough city centre. We are an outward looking school and our location means that we are ideally placed to participate in local and city-wide community activities.

We have an experienced, strong and supportive staff team who are inspiring to work with. There is an excellent culture within school. Our values that guide this culture are based on our ‘SHAPED’ vision for all pupils (Successful, Happy, Aspiring, Purposeful, Exciting and Diverse).

We are looking to appoint a committed and focused Head Teacher who will continue to achieve our aim of exceeding expectations and preparing pupils for life after school; and who will lead the school in future developments, including a planned new extensions and refurbishment project, and the development opportunities associated with this.

Applications are invited from exceptional, motivated and inspirational individuals with an informed appreciation of working with children who have SEND, a proven track record of successful school leadership in the field of special educational needs and experience of working with community partners.

We will consider applications from experienced Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers or Heads of School who are seeking to further their career.

At Marshfields we offer you:

  • A calm and engaging learning environment for students, with a family atmosphere.
  • A great working environment for staff where everyone is valued and treated with respect.
  • Hard working dedicated and committed staff who strive to gain the best for all of our students.
  • Support from a range of Health Professionals such as Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, School Nurse, Educational Psychologist and Social Care Professionals.
  • Supportive parents/carers who will work in partnership with you to achieve the best for their children.
  • Amazing students who love coming to school and are encouraged to learn the skills that they will need for life outside of school.
  • An enthusiastic and supportive Governing Body that puts the interests of the students first and is committed to the continual improvement of the school.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. We expect our Head Teacher to have a positive working relationship with the Governing Body and to understand its role in support and challenge. We want a leader who can work with our current senior leaders and staff teams, and who will build on established good practices while keeping the school moving forward.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the learning and lives of our students, to our staff, parents/carers and to the wider community as well as being a very rewarding undertaking for the successful applicant.

Informal visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. To book a visit, please contact Michelle Brownsword (School Business Manager) through the office email above.

To apply, please complete the application form attached or request a copy from the school office, details below. Email the completed application form with additional information, ensuring you address all the items in the Person Specification, to the Head Teacher, Janet James: janetjames@marshfields-sch.co.uk.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring check, in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and the Police Act Regulations.

Closing date: 2nd July 2018 (3pm)
Shortlisting: 3rd July 2018
