Teaching ServiceMuswellbrook High School, located in the Upper Hunter Valley, is built on the land of the Wanaruah and Kamilaroi people. With a student population of 901 students, approximately 21% of whom identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, our highly qualified and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff work together to create an environment that truly embodies our school motto, 'Striving for Excellence in a School that Cares'. We enjoy a proud history of educating families from the Upper Hunter, drawing students from the Muswellbrook, Denman, Sandy Hollow and Martindale communities.
The school is committed to developing the whole person through a broad curriculum which nourishes academic, sporting, cultural and performing arts achievement. We have strong relationships with the mining, agriculture, viticulture and equine industries to further enhance our school curriculum. We are an inclusive school community, catering for the diverse learning needs of all students, providing successful pathways in to tertiary study or in to employment, fostering the talents of our gifted and talented students, and providing enrichment opportunities for all students throughout their high school journey.
Our Support Unit, consisting of 5 classes (1 ED, 1 IM, 3 MC) is an integral part of our school, catering for the specific and complex needs of 54 students through strong and meaningful parent and community partnerships. We are a PBL school, utilising positive education to further develop student wellbeing and achievement. Our school programs and initiatives are well supported by an active parent community.
Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs, with demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching practice, providing quality differentiated programs for students with emotional disturbance, Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual disabilities and behaviour difficulties.
Highly developed organisational and communication skills with a proven ability to work proactively and professionally with parents/carers, school learning and support officers, students, external agencies and the wider school community in a complex setting.
Capacity to lead consultation, planning, implementation and review of Individual Education Programs and specific personalised plans for students in Support Classes with a range of disabilities and learning needs, leading to quality educational and social outcomes.
Capacity to work collaboratively as a dynamic team player within the school executive and leadership teams, supporting the implementation of a positive, inclusive, school culture.
Demonstrated ability to lead a passionate team of classroom teachers and School Learning and Support Officers in a highly visible and inclusive manner with a shared vision for all students with a disability.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
