Position Information 

Bowral High School acknowledges its location on Gundungurra land and was established at this site in 1929. We are a comprehensive high school with a virtual selective stream and Support Unit of seven classes in the NSW Southern Highlands. The student enrolment of 600 includes 51 Aboriginal students and an increasing number of culturally and linguistically diverse students. The school has a Family Occupation and Educational Index (FOEI) of 112 and serves families from Bowral, Mittagong and northern villages of the Southern Highlands.  

Bowral High School offers a very broad and balanced curriculum to meet the individual needs of students, including VET pathway courses, Support Unit classes, and for students who have demonstrated significant academic success online classes through Aurora College, NSW's virtual selective school. Opportunities and special interest programs are offered in the areas of high potential and gifted education, performing and creative arts, sports, cultural connections and student leadership. Through effective partnerships, Bowral High School has worked with our primary school partners to strengthen high school transition and with the broader community to build successful pathways beyond school, including work experience, vocational education and training, school-based traineeships and apprenticeships, university access, and TAFE. Strong links with tertiary institutions, local businesses, government bodies, and local and overseas schools extend curriculum and co-curriculum opportunities. A supportive parent community is engaged with the school. 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1. Demonstrated leadership ability with exceptional communication and organisational skills and the capacity to lead and manage a learning support team.

2. Outstanding interpersonal skills with demonstrated capacity to build productive, inclusive and trusting partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies, business and the wider community.

 3. Ability and expertise to work as an innovative and dynamic member of a school leadership team in leading initiatives that address whole school strategic directions, staff mentoring including fostering a culture of inclusivity.

4. Capacity to lead data driven responsive and transformative teaching and learning initiatives designed to improve the learning outcomes and wellbeing of students with complex needs. 

  
General Selection Criteria 

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
