Position Information 

Walgett Community College is located 290 km north-west of Dubbo. The High School has a Year 7-12 enrolment of 114 students, including approximately 96% Aboriginal students. The college is in a remote, rural location allowing learning opportunities to occur in unique environments. Facilities at the college include two trade training centres offering courses including hospitality and construction, a new Library, Wellbeing Hub and at the heart of the school is our Culture and Language Hub.

Walgett Community College is part of the Connected Community Strategy. The Connected Communities Strategy is an approach that schools and communities use to strengthen the educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and all students. It brings the community closer with the school, brings in Aboriginal culture, and allows the school to work with government and non-government groups to help support the education of the school’s students. 

At Walgett Community College High School, we are ‘Making School A Better Place’, an initiative that focuses on ten areas of opportunity. We are focused on School Leadership, A Positive School Environment, Embedding Local Language and Culture, Student Engagement, A Focus on Literacy and Numeracy, Wellbeing, Vocational Education Pathways, Linking Education to the Community, Communication and Engagement with Families and Community and Facilities and Equipment.

As an 8-point incentive school, this position attracts the relevant allowances including a 90% rental subsidy, the rural teacher incentive and the experienced teacher benefit.  

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, capacity to lead school wellbeing through capable, visible leadership, demonstrating strong teamwork, consistent communication and genuine consultation.

Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills as a leader with the capacity to drive communication and engagement with families and community.

Demonstrated capacity and commitment to promoting the culture and ethos of the school in the health, safety and wellbeing of all students, staff and the wider community. 

Demonstrated capacity to foster a supportive and positive school environment, where staff and students want to work and learn, and student achievement is the focus.

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
