Located in the leafy village of Bowdon in Trafford, Altrincham Preparatory School (APS) is the leading boys’ prep school in the North West educating some 320 boys aged 2 to 11. The School is dedicated to ensuring educational excellence in an environment that nurtures its boys into well-rounded, confident young men. Founded in 1936 by a small group of masters from Altrincham Grammar School, APS aims to marry tradition with innovation across all areas of school life. 

APS has a distinctive atmosphere which couples academic pursuit with a breadth of opportunity and respect for variety of achievement. The School has high expectations of its boys and demands excellent standards of behaviour which, combined with high academic attainment, results in its boys progressing to some of the best secondary schools in the country.

The Board of Governors is now seeking to appoint a leader with drive and commitment to build upon the School’s strong reputation and enhance its offering to ensure the School remains at the forefront. This is an excellent opportunity, in close partnership with a fully supportive Board, to build on APS’s many successes as it enters the next chapter in its rich history.

The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with the School’s educational aims and values, have a desire to nurture its strengths and clearly articulate these as part of a vibrant and ambitious new vision. The new Head will have first-class communication skills alongside a proven ability to engage with, inspire and lead the whole School community with a collaborative and empowering approach.
