Job overview

We’re looking for a new Headteacher – the children of Knowleswood have some questions for you…

  • Are you smart, kind, funny and fair?
  • Will you talk to us, play with us and love us?
  • Will you protect us from fire and dragons?

If so, then the children and staff of Knowleswood would like to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Headteacher who understands our challenging community and has the heart and resilience to guide us as we embark on the next stage of our exciting journey.

A strong nurturing environment with a commitment to achievement

Knowleswood is a 2 form primary school in a unique and socially complex community, with families joining us from a range of backgrounds. We have a strong nurturing environment and happy children who are resilient, willing to learn and appreciative of the care they receive. Our teaching team are creative, committed people – they are open to innovation, are supportive and willing to go the extra mile.

‘The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding’ (OfSTED 2016). We have great relationships between our staff, parents and children, and put community at the heart of how we work, with inclusive, pastoral support for vulnerable families.

An extraordinary amount of hard work has gone into improving Knowleswood and our new leader will have a real platform for building on our many successes. In particular, we are immensely proud of our exciting, engaging and challenging curriculum (our latest OfSTED said ‘The school’s curriculum is rich, broad and balanced’) that provides our children with a wide variety of learning experiences (check out @knowleswood on Twitter to see what we’ve been up to).

Passion, patience and resilience

We believe that for the right candidate our school is a gift. You will already be a Headteacher who has worked in a similar diverse community, and understands its complexities.

Your passion for improving life chances for children, your patience and your resilience will help you drive our ambition to improve attainment and achieve an overall good rating from Ofsted.

If you’re able to nurture talent and have an adaptable leadership style that supports aspiration and autonomy, our teaching and leadership teams will thrive under your guidance.

To succeed in this role, you will have energy, drive, commitment…and an all-important sense of humour (an ability to slay dragons will always be welcome too).

If you can be a Headteacher who understands our challenging community and has the heart to support us to be the best we can be, we’d love to read your application.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. To arrange a visit contact Andrew Cheeseman acheeseman@knowleswood.co.uk or 01274 778177.
