Job overview

Can you build on excellence for a sustainable and inspirational future?

Primrose Hill Primary School is a diverse, inclusive and confident two-form entry school situated in a spacious Victorian site alongside The Regent’s Canal and nestled between serene parks, London Zoo, and the cultural hub of Camden Town.

We are an exceptional place for learning, with talented staff delivering an imaginative and rigorous curriculum. Our work is underpinned by a culture of combatting discrimination and promoting fairness, justice and equality, while respecting every child’s individual needs and talents. Our belief in laying a secure physical, social and emotional foundation, and instilling a genuine enthusiasm for learning, produces well-rounded children as well as fantastic academic results. Renowned for our high-quality SEND provision, we have recently opened an Autistic Resourced Provision.

We are seeking to appoint a Headteacher of extraordinary ability, capable of embracing our ethos and driving continuous improvement in these challenging times. Our School is navigating the present pandemic response well, but your early success will nonetheless depend upon re-establishing a stable teaching and learning environment in 2021 and ensuring that high standards are sustained. Longer term, you will focus on positioning the School for an even greater leadership role in the borough and beyond.

This is an opportunity for an existing Headteacher or highly experienced deputy, who fully shares our vision of inclusivity combined with excellence, and who is able to consistently put principles into practice. You will need to be an outstanding, open-minded and outward-facing practitioner, whose knowledge of teaching and learning is driven by evidence and who is keen to share and collaborate with others. You will be a believer in distributive leadership, parental engagement and listening to children. You will also be a dynamic leader, inspiring commitment from the rest of the team. You will be an excellent communicator who is approachable and capable of building on the relationships and partnerships we have throughout the borough. You will have the support of dedicated staff, a committed governing body, and a close partnership with Camden Learning.

Above all, you will have a proven track record that prepares you to build innovatively on the many types of excellence already demonstrated by PHS, while articulating a strategic vision in a way that ensures the continued support of all stakeholders.

About Primrose Hill Primary School

Primrose Hill is a two form entry Primary School occupying an impressive, listed Victorian building in a beautiful part of London.

The school looks out on to Regent’s Canal and is near to a number of interesting places such as London Zoo, Camden Lock and Regents Park all of which are visited by the children. There are two large playgrounds and
a separate Nursery building with its own enclosed playground.

We have around 482 children on roll in the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. There are two parallel classes in each year group, apart from Year 5 where we have 3 classes and the Nursery where there are 39 full time places.  Classes are identified by their year number followed by the initial of the teacher’s first name.

We aim to maximise children’s achievement by removing barriers to learning through a varied, creative, inclusive curriculum delivered in a safe, stimulating environment. As a primary school, we believe we have a key role in society in combating discrimination and promoting fairness, justice and equality through our teaching and in the role models we offer.
